Jetting off on a whim to London, I snagged a last-minute flight, eager to catch a Chelsea FC game. Fueled by the words of “How To Write An Autobiographical Novel: Essays by Alexander Chee” and entertained by the movie “Dream Scenario,” the flight was smooth—except for a customs officer who, upon learning my Chelsea mission, said for me to get back on the plane LOL, likely an Arsenal or Man U fan.
Kings Cross was our base, with “The Standard” offering killer views and easy access to non-touristy spots. London’s treats are a feast for the senses. St John Bakery and Bread Ahead serve up Michelin-level donuts and pastries. Mr Fogg’s, a classier joint than most pubs, welcomed us last minute for drinks and snacks. Dishoom’s Indian delights warmed us up on a chilly day, with free hot Chai making the wait worthwhile.
Then, Stamford Bridge fulfilled my football dreams. From a Moet welcome to prime seats and a Chelsea win, it was an unforgettable experience. Whether you’re a football fanatic or just exploring, these London gems won’t disappoint.
